Arts

LancasterARTS' core purpose is creating and ensuring the sustainability of the arts in the city. It serves as facilitator, promoter, educator and advocate for the arts. Bethel AME Church

Historic Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church of ChurchTowne, Lancaster, PA, has been a center for the Lancaster community's religious and cultural life since its founding in 1817. Bethel AME was an active station on the Underground Railroad in Pennsylvania. Living the Experience is Bethel AME's spiritual, creative, living historical production of the Underground Railroad in Pennsylvania. Central Market

The city is home to the country's oldest, continuously operating farmer's market in the country. The 60+ Market stand holders offer a wide variety of foods during the three market days-Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The Market also includes non-food gift items. Demuth Museum

120 E. King Street The Demuth Foundation exists to promote the work of Charles Demuth, maintain his home as a museum and art gallery, and to preserve the adjacent 18th century buildings that belonged to the Demuth family for five generations. Eastern Market

308 E. King Street Features the freshest locally produced vegetables, fruits, flowers, plants, breads, eggs, etc. sold by Lancaster County family farmers and producers. Fulton Theatre

12 N. Prince Street Owning a place in history as the longest continuously run theatre, Fulton Opera House and Theatre, is a Lancaster landmark. As a non-profit charity, Fulton offers the public professional and exemplary shows. For the full theater schedule visit www.thefulton.org.

Gallery Row

Largely located between 138 and 154 N Prince Street, Gallery Row offers many artist galleries and interesting shops. Deemed by many as Lancaster's "Avenue of the Arts," this strip is constantly growing and inspiring those who visit.

Heritage Center of Lancaster

5 W. king Street Committed to preserve Lancaster County's history and decorative arts, the Heritage Museums presents annual exhibitions, permanent collection, and education programs. Located right in the heart of the city and housed in two historic buildings, the museum also oversees the Quilt & Textile Museum. Hole in the Wall Puppet Theatre

Hole in the Wall Puppet Theatre is a local puppet playhouse specializing in marionettes and muppet-style puppets. There are shows available on most weekends and this venue also offers numerous film screenings. James Buchanan's Wheatland

1120 Marietta Avenue Once home to our nation's 15th President, James Buchanan, Wheatland has incredible historic significance. Not only was Buchanan the only President to hail from Pennsylvania, but he was an ever-faithful public servant and reluctant Presidential nominee. The regal estate is open for tours and other events Monday through Saturday 10am- 4pm and Sunday noon-4pm from April 1 through October 31. More information can be found at www.wheatland.org.

Lancaster Barnstormers Baseball and Clipper Magazine Stadium

650 N. Prince Street Lancaster's very own Atlantic League baseball team, the Barnstormers, call Clipper Magazine Stadium home. During the season, visitors can enjoy the excitement of a baseball game, which often include a fireworks show, but the fun does not stop there. Throughout the year, Clipper Stadium offers different activities, including turning the stadium into an ice park in the winter. Lancaster Museum of Art

135 N. Lime Street Established in 1965, this non-profit organization continues to make art, from artists on every level, available to Lancaster. Local to international artists have exhibited within the walls of the Museum's historic Grubb Family Mansion location. Prior to being in the Grubb Mansion, the LMA was the Goethean Gallery on the campus of nearby Franklin & Marshall College. This Heritage Resource Site is free to the public and open Monday- Saturday 10am-4pm and Sunday Noon-4pm. Please visit www.lmapa.org to learn more about the LMA.

Lancaster Science Factory

454 New Holland Avenue The Lancaster Science Factory is a hands-on, interactive learning center filled with curiosity and creativity as kids learn the principles of science and the application of science in engineering and technology. Located in an old factory building, over 50 highly interactive exhibits, workstations and mini-labs offer “open-ended” learning experiences, with opportunities for kids to experiment and create…and learn that science is fun! We’ve selected the best and most successful exhibits from around the world. Visitors actually “do” science and engineering projects. The Lancaster Science Factory is open Tuesday-Saturday 10 to 5 and Sunday Noon to 5 (Sept-May) and Monday-Saturday 10 to 5 and Sunday Noon to 5 (June-Aug). Lancaster Symphony Orchestra

The Lancaster Symphony Orchestra, a class 5 orchestra and member of the American Symphony Orchestra League, has provided the city with equisite musical performances for years. Every year, the professional musicians of the orchestra put on over 25 concerts that often feature internationally known guest artists and conductors. www.lancastersymphony.org.

Lancaster Quilt & Textile Museum & Museum Store

37 N. Market Street A visit to Lancaster County is not complete without a self-guided tour of the Lancaster Quilt & Textile Museum. The stunning array of colors and patterns in these artifacts provides a window through which to view the people who created them. Visit www.quiltandtextilemuseum.com.

North Museum of Natural History and Science

400 College Avenue The North Museum of Natural History & Science generates excitement and curiosity about science, technology, and natural history. Close to downtown Lancaster, the Museum features extensive collections and hands-on, minds-on exhibits that engage the imagination in a welcoming environment. From outer space to local Native American peoples, from rocks and minerals to dinosaurs, from the Live Animal Room to the Discovery Room, you will explore the diverse world of natural history and science. Opera Lancaster

Lancaster boasts one of the very few non-profit, all-volunteer opera companies in America. Opera Lancaster maintains an active performing membership of over 100, plus a large group of production and administration.

Phillips Museum of Art at Franklin & Marshall

The Phillips Museum has three different exhibition spaces that are open to students and the public alike. These three different spaces house numerous shows each year and feature a range of student artists to well-known and established artists. www.fandm.edu/phillipsmuseum.xml.

Roschel Performing Arts Center/ Barshinger Musical Arts Center at Franklin & Marshall

Both Roschel and Barshinger offer frequent shows on the campus of Franklin & Marshall College. Roschel specializing in theatre, dance, flim, and other performing arts while Barshinger is known for its musical performances. Rock Ford Plantation

881 Rock Ford Road One mile south of Lancaster City, on the banks of the Conestoga, Rock Ford was once home to General Edward Hand in the 18th Century. The Georgian-style mansion, built in 1794, remains well preserved and is has most of the original components. The plantation is open to the public Thursday through Sunday 11am-3pm April through October. Ticket and other information is available at www.rockfordplantation.org.
